Esperia Hotel

The beach and restaurants are close by, and I’d go to Lagana again, just not to the Expedia sorry to say. The rooms were very basic but okay for what we paid, and they were cleaned daily during our week. Reception staff were pleasant and the cleaners lovely. The pool was okay and cleaned once a day. The bar areas were fine, though drinks were expensive. Breakfast was disgusting, so avoid it. Air conditioning costs extra, and the charge is expensive. You can’t bring alcohol into your room, probably because young party guests can get loud in party season, even though we’re adults. The owner comes across as tight and keen to get every penny from you, though he seems okay. It’s all right if you get a cheap enough deal.

The noise made it hard to sleep. We were at the end of a corridor, with doors banging, people shouting all night and what sounded like furniture being dragged around. I had to play white noise on my phone to drown it out. The room was basic but otherwise okay. We had room 113, above the kitchen, with food smells and noise, and a balcony that looked into an indoor courtyard, so there was basically no view. We never used it. I came on a last minute trip with my 15 year old son, and we had a twin room. Staff were nice enough, but the room was grubby. There was black mould at the bottom of the shower tray, and the back of the bathroom door looked as if it had never been cleaned. There wasn’t a “do not disturb” sign, so cleaners could knock from 10 a.m., wouldn’t take no for an answer, and would clean around us if they could. It was awkward. Breakfast was poor, so we only ate it on the first and last days. There were cold scrambled eggs, hot dog sausages, beans and mushrooms, or an overcooked boiled egg, along with one cheese, one salami, chopped watermelon, cereal and yoghurt. There was a sign for bacon, but we never saw any. By the third day I was ready to leave. The area on “the strip” was mostly okay, but I wouldn’t recommend this place or return. It seems suited to people aged 18-21 who just want to party.

We visited in the first week of September. The hotel and staff were nice, and breakfast was well stocked. It’s close to the beach. We’d definitely come back.

The pool and bar area are lovely, and the staff go out of their way to be helpful. Special mention to Kostantinos, Yiannis, Gabriel, Nicole and Denis. The rooms were great, very clean and tidy, and the location in laganis is ideal. I’d definitely recommend the Esperia hotel.
