Santa Maria Surfing Beach Hotel (Village/Camping)

Our kids had a fantastic time on the beautiful beach, which was one of the highlights for us. Being almost right on the beach is a real advantage, and the suite had its own outdoor area and separate sun loungers. It was relatively spacious too, with a sofa bed. We booked at Surfing Beach Paros without realizing it was outside the main area. Having a car kept that from being a major problem, but without one you’d be dependent and somewhat stuck. Breakfast was below average and service was practically nonexistent. At around €250 per night, we expected more hospitality and a better overall experience. Great beachfront location for families, but the breakfast and service didn’t match the price.

If you want quiet or a decent night’s sleep, avoid this place. Loud party music plays all day, every day, with constant noise that shows no respect for guests, neighbors or the protected natural area. The police have been called several times, but the place still seems not to care about other people’s lives, its own guests or the surrounding nature.

The cats were the best part of my stay, so if you like cats, this place might be for you. That’s about it. The driver and receptionist were the staff I liked; everyone else looked tired and as if they didn’t want to be there. I’m Eastern European and have heard that kind of comment too, but even I noticed. I understand to a point, but it’s hospitality, and there should be at least a minimum standard. I tried the restaurant once to give it a chance. Nothing memorable, except the overpriced salads. Two stars for the cats. The room was outdated, though not the worst. The bright white lighting was like a hospital and gave me a headache, so bring medicine. The bathroom was spacious, at least. The hotel is right by the beach, but I wouldn’t recommend that beach. It was dirty, with cigarette butts, wipes and leftover food scattered around. You’ll need to rent a vehicle, no debate, or you’ll be stuck in this remote location. Renting a car saved my vacation. Transportation to and from the airport costs 8 euros, which isn’t too bad. My ferry was delayed and I arrived late, but housekeepers woke me at 730 twice when I wanted to sleep in. I asked them to come back at 10, but they kept insisting at the door and didn’t speak English. So I went to the beach early, after trying breakfast, which was very scarce. You can pile food on your plate, but the staff may give you weird looks.

The staff were lovely, welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was really nice, and there’s a great swimming pool bar and a soft-sand beach. My room was basic but in good condition, and it was cleaned every other day. To enjoy Paros you’ll need a car, since the village is a bit off the beaten track. I’d recommend staying here and would definitely come back.
