Villa Aphrodite

It’s a lovely place with great facilities and a great location, though it can be tricky to find. From Lindos reception, walk down into the village until you get to the Red Rose pub. Opposite the pub, next to the excellent creperie, there’s a narrow street. Go straight up it and you’ll see the apartment, with its name on the door.

We liked the location and the views, and I’d stay at this villa again. It’s easy to reach by car, and the old town of Lindos is walkable, though the walk isn’t for the faint-hearted. The road up to the villa is very narrow. There were a few small maintenance problems, and it was reasonably clean overall. The information booklet could have been better, with instructions for the washing machine and which switches control each light. More lighting around the front, down the side, and in the lower garden tier would have helped, and I missed having a hair dryer. It was over 32 degrees, though, so I guess I didn’t really need one.

The location was the only positive for us. Several facilities didn’t work, and although we told the rep on arrival, more than ten people came to assess things before the owner finally arrived on day five. We were told again that the hot tub had been working two days earlier, which wasn’t true: the previous family couldn’t use it, and a second engineer confirmed that its heating element was installed the morning we arrived. The owner was quite arrogant and suggested it was our fault. I don’t know how we could have reached the panels underground. He took out various parts and motors to make repairs, and afterwards the pool filter no longer worked, leaving dirty, stagnant water and a filthy area. There’s a fence and gate that suggest the outside is child-friendly, but the stairs are very steep and don’t have enough protection against falls or trips. The sea view is partial because buildings are in front. Avoid at all costs.

We chose this villa because it had a hot tub, but it didn’t work and hardly any effort was made to get it fixed. The owners were happy to take our money but didn’t seem to care about providing what we’d paid for. Disgusting. Avoid.
