Molos Apartments

The steep stairs in our apartment felt unsafe for the younger kids, and the bath was an old-fashioned setup with a shower hose. We also waited a long time for replies to our booking emails. Still, Loutro is a lovely little town for a few quiet days. The apartment had a great position near the center, with a view over the bay, and check-in was quick: we met the host as we got off the boat. The air conditioning worked well, there was Nespreaso coffee, and a supermarket right next door.

After hiking the Samaria Gorge, we stayed at the Molos Apartment. The rooms were spacious and had everything we needed. I just wish we'd booked more than one night.

It's a straightforward but comfortable place right in the middle of Loutro, and I think it's among the more recently built places there. The rooms were cozy, clean, and in a great location, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I'd happily recommend it and hope to return next year. Thank you!

Our stay in the top-floor suite with my family turned into a nightmare. By the time we left, I wished I could give the place zero stars. The apartment felt badly put together and wasn't functional. There was black mold on the wall beside the shower, and the concrete ceiling slabs were left exposed and unpainted, which seems especially unsuitable for a humid room. Shower water spread across the bathroom, so getting to the toilet felt like crossing a pond. The faucet barely reached over the sink basin and splashed water around when we washed our hands. The balcony glass and outside windows were dirty too. Getting to the apartment meant climbing a tiring number of rough stairs, and inside it was unbearably hot. We asked for two key cards, but were told not to leave the air conditioning on while we were out because it might “get broken.” I thought that was a poor excuse, apparently to avoid electricity costs. We were at the beach when Maria, the owner's daughter, confronted us about having left it on. She didn't let us reply before running off. I felt her manner was harassing and entitled, though she could have raised the issue politely. It didn't seem to me that Maria knew how to speak respectfully. There were problems with payment and the price as well. On arrival, we were told to pay in cash and Maria said we'd have to withdraw it from a nearby ATM if we wanted to stay. I suspected tax evasion. We had been explicitly told, and have it in writing, that the quoted price covered two nights, but at check-in they said it was the price for one night. It felt like a blatant scam, and I've since seen other negative reviews describe the same issue. After checkout, while we waited for the ferry, Maria approached us again, angrily showing a photo of a sunscreen mark on the sofa and claiming it was a deliberate snot stain. I found that accusation clueless and bold. We could have caused much worse damage if we'd actually intended to, and I hadn't planned to write a review until this final encounter. We'd visited with family, expecting a getaway, and instead couldn't wait to leave. I'd never encountered this kind of air-conditioning rule on any of my stays in Crete, where I've been going twice a year for over a decade.
