The desserts were a real treat, from profiteroles and lemon tart to Pavlova, cheesecake, and apple strudel. Huge thanks to the pastry chef. Meals were tasty overall, with a good selection of meat and fish, though I would have liked more seafood. When prawns were served, they were always unpeeled, and with a small child I just didn’t have time to peel them. Restaurant staff were lovely, smiling, polite, and quick to help. The supervisor kept things so organized that the team seemed to work like clockwork. We stayed in 2025, after the hotel had been refreshed, and it looked much better in person than in photos. The grounds were green, tidy, and full of nice spots for pictures. Restaurants, bars, and pools were all easy to get to. Special thanks to the gardener, a kind, hardworking man with golden hands who kept the grounds looking perfect and was often out carefully tending the plants. Our room for three, including our 2-year-old, felt quite small, especially the bathroom. The so-called double bed was two single beds pushed together, and they slid apart, which didn’t feel very safe or comfortable. The room was fresh and clean, although we did see one cockroach. Housekeeping was excellent, with neat, attentive cleaning every day. Our lovely housekeeper spoke English very well and helped with everything we needed. I’ve never met such a pleasant, caring person. At the beach, the lifeguard was friendly and upbeat, greeted everyone, and explained where it was safe to swim. The lifeguard at the upper pool wasn’t as welcoming. The beach bar team was great too: during the day a lovely woman remembered our drinks, and in the evening a cheerful man brought lots of positive energy. The hotel caters mostly to German guests, but staff speak good English. There were beautiful sunsets and plenty of places to enjoy the sea view. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the people. A solid 4/5 despite a few small downsides, and we might come back.

Everything turned out much better than I expected. The staff were great, the rooms were clean, and I had a really good stay.

Water leaked from the ceiling straight into the bathroom, which felt like a serious hygiene and safety problem. The facilities were dirty, outdated, and neglected, and the room looked nothing like the online photos. It felt like a scam. There was no working air conditioning in the room, a major problem in Crete’s heat, and nobody seemed to care or offer a fix. Service was just as disappointing. No one made a real effort to solve the problems or even apologize. The place seemed poorly managed and not maintained. My stay at Allsun Malia Beach Hotel in Crete was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, a disaster from arrival onward. It doesn’t deserve even one star. I’d strongly advise other travelers to stay away until the facilities and service get serious attention. Don’t let your holiday be ruined like mine.

The hotel grounds were beautiful, with plants and palms all around, and the rooms and shared areas were clean. I really enjoyed the food and always looked forward to it. The staff were helpful and friendly, always smiling. I’m rating the hotel highly for its service, surroundings, and location. We’ll definitely return.

Maître Anthony deserves a special mention. I have celiac disease, and all week, at every meal, he helped me figure out what I could eat with a smile. Each morning he brought me a plate full of breakfast treats, and he was kind and attentive to all of us. Stefano, the Italian entertainer, also made our days much more fun, though everyone was friendly. We had a wonderful family holiday at this beautiful, well-kept resort. It isn’t too big, everything was clean, and the whole team, from reception and waiters to entertainment, housekeeping, and pool attendants, was great. The restaurant had delicious food, lots of choice, and clean surroundings. Eating outdoors was especially nice, and there was something for everyone. I think the negative reviews are unjustified, probably written by people who aren’t used to stepping outside their homes. Greetings to all the staff from Maddalena and Family!
