Socrates Hotel Malia Beach

We stayed 5 nights in a 3 bed ground floor room. The hotel is well placed, about a 10-15 minute walk from the strip, but far enough away that nights are quiet. It has a chilled-out feel, with guests who seem to come to sunbathe, read and nap rather than party, which suited us. Most guests were couples and families with young children. On our last day, some younger male groups bombed into the pool and splashed people, but staff told them off. This isn’t the hotel for that kind of behavior. Our room was clean and the sheets, towels and bathroom were cleaned or changed daily. WiFi was weak in the room, though better by the pool, and ants often showed up if the patio or balcony door was left open. The air con was strong enough once it got going, though it took a while. Breakfast was plentiful, and the bar food and drinks were fantastic, especially the pasta. Despina, the bar manager, was by far the best part of Socrates. She remembered our names, always greeted us and chatted with us, and got along well with the other guests too. After checkout we could leave our luggage and use the pool. Showers and toilets are down the stairs below the bar, so we could freshen up before our flight. If you want a quiet haven near the chaos of the strip, this is the place.

The staff, especially Despina and Eleni, made our stay. They were amazing, and we loved every second. Socrates hotel is surrounded by great restaurants and bars, with the strip about a ten-minute walk away. Malia was perfect for a girls' holiday. One of the best hotels I've stayed in, and we'd love to come back!

The room was about what you'd expect for the price and perfectly usable, though I wish the air con got colder. We really enjoyed the pool and the breakfast, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great value overall.

By the second day, Despina already knew what we were going to order. She's amazing. Despina, we love you!
