Marathon Palace

We loved the outside pools and terrace, and the view was stunning. The breakfast was amazing and huge, and the welcoming staff were very helpful. Everything was clean, tidy, and beautifully maintained, as if it had recently been brought up to spec. It’s an incredible place to stay. Our only regret was that other bookings meant we couldn’t extend our visit.

May was a good time to come if you want a beautiful place that isn’t crowded. The view, pool, and relaxing atmosphere were lovely, and the staff were very friendly. There were a few problems, though: the pool bottom wasn’t very clean, room service seemed unhappy without tips and didn’t clean the room properly, and we had no hot water in the shower on three of our five days. I’d seen a comment about hot water being absent before booking.

The hotel is really nice and has cracking views of Marathon and the mountains, with a lovely deep pool. It was clean and tidy, but you’ll need a car to get there. Breakfast was very limited and not great, basically toast each morning. They advertise the rooms as having king beds, but the rooms at the back have two single beds pushed together. After some discussion with the staff, my wife and I were moved to a room with a proper king bed. I recommend reading the fine print before booking.

The owners were nice and helpful when they arrived in the morning. But at eleven, the pool suddenly filled with kids from the nearby village. The place itself was filthy: the fridge was full of mold, there was a cockroach in the shower, and the sheets had stains that looked suspicious.
