Astir Odysseus Kos Resort & Spa

We’d happily return. Our room at Hotel Astier Odysseus Coast was bright, spacious, quiet, and very clean, with a lovely balcony looking over the shared pool. Breakfast had plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, and dinner offered a good range of fresh, tasty dishes. We enjoyed the entertainment too. The spa was especially inviting and clean, and Katja made me feel comfortable and well cared for during my massage.

The only real letdown was the evening show we watched. It felt low quality, and by the end about half the audience had left. The lobby bar had other evening entertainment that seemed much more popular, though, so that wouldn’t put me off returning. We only came here for a couple of nights after extending our holiday, and I wish we’d booked the whole trip here. Check-in was easy, and our swim-up room was brilliant, with a roomy pool and not too much overlooking from nearby rooms. Food mattered to us since my wife and I both own food businesses. We found it hot and good quality, with plenty of options at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The drinks list covered everything from classic cocktails to local wine and beer, and it was nice to see premium alcohol used. You can order through the hotel app and have drinks brought to your sunbed by either of the two main pools, which was especially handy with a child to look after. Our three-year-old loved the central playground, which had a bit of everything for kids. There’s also free crazy golf and skittles whenever you want to use them. We’re looking forward to coming back.

The resort is beautiful and consistently clean, from the rooms and grounds to the facilities and dining areas. The buffet was probably the best I’ve had, with high-quality food. It makes staying on the property convenient, especially for families with children, though I usually like exploring local restaurants when I’m in Greece. This is very much a family resort, with children around the pools and plenty of people throughout the large property. It felt safe and well looked after. If you’re after a quiet, adult-focused stay, or are traveling alone or with girlfriends, it may not suit you. I came with family and found it ideal for that kind of trip. Many guests seemed to be from Germany, likely because of direct flights and Kos’s popularity with German travelers. The private beach is behind the pool area, but seating is limited, so you need to arrive early to get a spot, particularly in peak season. DJs play loudly by the pools for the children, which carries over to the beach, so it’s not a peaceful beach escape. There are other lovely beaches within driving distance, and the nearest town is about 15 minutes away. Shopping, restaurants, and other beach options are close enough to reach easily. There’s a gym and spa, and I’d recommend a massage. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. For families wanting comfort, safety, and the choice to stay in or explore nearby, it’s a good fit. For a more adventurous trip immersed in Greek culture, I’d choose somewhere else.

We won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this hotel. The pools were dirty, with sand on the bottom, and the drinks in the all-inclusive package were low quality. The sea area was windy and had very little sand, which is expected during summer holidays. Reception staff communicated poorly and were unfriendly. I was told the included transfer covered both directions, then learned the night before that it was only for arrival. The hotel-arranged taxi was extremely overpriced, and the presidential suite didn’t feel worth what we paid.
