Goulas Traditional Guesthouse

The room was clean and comfortable, and the air conditioning was excellent. Great location, within walking distance of everything. We liked everything else, but the bed was too hard.

We had a wonderful balcony with a sea view, and the location was ideal: away from the noisy main street, but still close enough to the main gate to manage our luggage. Staff responded quickly when I messaged about the missing toilet paper in our room at 6:30p. There’s no front desk at the guesthouse, but they directed me to a cabinet in the reception area where I found some. I appreciated the quick response. The room itself left a lot to be desired. As soon as I touched the shower curtain, its rod fell down. We couldn’t get it to stay because one wall was angled and the tension rod couldn’t grip. The shower is handheld rather than fixed overhead. The host sent instructions for turning on the water heater 15 minutes before showering, but we followed them and still couldn’t get hot water. Staff were responsive, but the lodging quality overall was lacking.

The building has historic charm, the staff are friendly, and the location is perfect for a short walk to the best of Monemvasia. The view is amazing, too. The bathroom is old and dated, not luxurious, but that feels like a small sacrifice in such a classic building.

The apartment was spotless, full of traditional character, and the owner and staff were so kind and helpful. We loved waking up to the sunrise and the wide sea view from the big terrace. Toulas House is only a few steps from the Kastro entrance, with restaurants and coffee shops nearby, and Portello is close for a swim. Monemvasia felt like a dream for anyone who loves heritage, culture, and history. We can only recommend it.
