Hotel Prassino Nissi

The front desk man, who I assume is the owner, came across as cheeky and arrogant. I paid £600 for five nights and have stayed in better hostels. The bathroom hygiene was especially poor, the interior feels 40 years out of date, and the bed was rock hard. Do yourself a favour and save yourself the headache by booking elsewhere. This place should be closed down.

The outside areas and pool were lovely and clean, and the beach is nearby. Inside, though, there's a lot that needs work. Some rooms have been renovated, but much of the hotel hasn't; the bed slats kept dropping and banging, and the bed was so uncomfortable even my four-year-old complained. The tiny shower had an old-looking curtain, and room cleanliness was so-so. For a hotel advertised as ideal for families, the playground only had one working see-saw. Wi-Fi costs extra, works only on the terrace, and is very slow, though that seems mostly due to the island's provider. Meals had few choices and repeated themselves: breakfast was the same cereal, toast, ham and cheese, marmalade and butter each day, while dinner cycled through meat and potatoes. When we skipped dinner or ate out, the owner kept noticing and asking about it. It's among the cheaper hotels, but still expensive for what it offers.

Free parking was a big bonus, and the free Wi-Fi meant everyone could stay connected. Our room was roomy, spotless and nicely decorated, a great value for a family-friendly stay.

The pool beside the cocktail-bar terrace is a real plus, as is the lovely seaside location and the nice waitresses. Rooms are simple and modest, though small, and the bathroom is very, very small. The price is cheap and I think it's good value for money. We got what we paid for.
