The hosts’ tips made our short stop especially memorable. Athina and Athanasios sent us to a family restaurant in town run by twins, where the rosemary lamb and Greek salad were excellent. We got the last table by arriving five minutes before opening, while locals were already at the others. They also told us about a local jeweler who makes wedding pieces from gold and pearls. We didn’t buy anything, but now we have a reason to come back. We’d arrived in Mykonos after a flight and were leaving by ferry for Naxos the next day, so we only had one night at Aether Boutique Stay. It was our third anniversary, and we were hoping for somewhere with some heart to it. We found that as soon as we met Athina and Athanasios, a warm husband-and-wife team who clearly put care into the place. The breakfast was a highlight: pastries baked by Athina, including filo with vanilla pastry cream, a Mykonian cheese and dill pie made by Athanasios’ mother, Tinos thyme honey, fig and walnut jam, Greek coffee, pesto sandwiches, carrot cake, and big fresh figs. Tea came in a floral pot that reminded me of my grandmother’s. Athanasios asked what we wanted and brought yoghurt, muesli, or eggs. I don’t want breakfast again unless someone’s mom made it! The room was comfortable, with great AC, which can be hard to find in Europe, and a picture-frame window looking over the old town. It was a ten-minute walk, best done during the day since Mykonos doesn’t have much in the way of sidewalks. We easily took the bus back at night. We’ve also been to Santorini and Thessaloniki, but this stay felt particularly special because of the hosts’ care. We’re already planning a longer return. Aether Boutique Stay usually doesn’t take one-night bookings, depending on the season, but it’s worth making time for two or three nights. Book it if you can.

Out of our eleven days touring Greece, this was the place we liked best. We felt almost as if we had the place to ourselves, and Athina and her husband treated us like extended family. I travelled with my husband and our children, aged 21 and 16. The two bedrooms and shared bathroom worked well for us, and everything was clean and comfortable. It’s right by the bus route, with rides costing two euros, and the views are lovely. Each morning’s breakfast was made from scratch with fresh local ingredients.

The owners made our stay, they’re a really friendly couple and were helpful the whole time. The room was spacious and very clean, and we loved the delicious, authentic breakfast. It’s well placed, close enough to the center and the beaches. Thanks to them for everything, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Mykonos.

Fresh breakfast, surprisingly great rooms, and a spot that’s central to everything. The people here are so friendly and accommodating. If I make it back to Mykonos, I’m booking here again. A+++.

Athina and her family made us feel like friends visiting the island, rather than tourists. Their suggestions for restaurants, bakeries, and beaches were excellent, including two restaurants we especially loved. The place has only six rooms, and ours was spacious, simple and white, with a lovely view, a walk-in shower, and thoughtful little touches: cold water always in the fridge and a chocolate on the bedside table in the evening. Aether is a quiet, welcoming place with a lot of care in the details. Breakfast is homemade, with good bread, pies, jams, and local honey. If those things matter to you, you’ll appreciate the stay. I can’t recommend it enough.
