Alkyoni Beach Hotel

We were stunned by how neglected the property felt. The pool area had bird droppings on the loungers, bits of tree litter everywhere, rust on the posts, and wasp nests nearby. For the price, the far end of the strip also felt like a poor location when cleaner, more central places are available. Breakfast was only passable, and the pool bar drinks were both bad and overpriced. A pina colada cost 13 euros, and the bartender had to look up how to make one. Our first room looked attractive at a glance, but the bathroom fixtures were badly rusted, ants were on the counter, and we killed around 20 mosquitoes after arriving. We had requested a queen bed, but got two twins pushed together with no shared sheet. When we reported the problems, the desk attendant brushed us off and said we would have to wait until the next day to see if another room was available. That night we found dark specks and hair in the sheets. The desk was empty when we went back, so we used beach towels over the beds and barely slept with mosquitoes buzzing around us. We each had about five bites by morning. After I got angry and complained again, the manager moved us, but first accused me of leaving the hair there. I had only pulled the sheets back and never got into bed. The room we were moved to had apparently been empty the night before, but we were told nothing could be done until morning because it was an upgrade. I also want to respond to the hotel's reply. Staff did not come looking for me. The same man was at the desk for my first two complaints, and neither time did he offer another room. On my third visit, after hours, nobody was at reception. The other room should have been offered when we first reported what was wrong. The grounds were not a problem because of vegetation. There was no reason to leave bird droppings on loungers or tree debris around the pool. I was upset, but I did not shout or use inappropriate language, and I think I kept my composure given how we were treated. At breakfast, two other groups also said the hotel seemed poorly kept and did not match its photos or reviews, and that they would not return. It has potential, but it is run down. Keeping the grounds clean would be a start. I still can't understand the 4.6-star rating.
