Naxian Utopia

We had a fantastic time in Naxos and at Naxian Utopia. Our villa worked perfectly for our group of three, including a baby, and the communal pool had wonderful views. Anna and the rest of the front desk team were very helpful with booking a rental car, dinner recommendations and reservations, and anything else we needed. Breakfast was delicious. Agios Prokopios, with beach chairs for rent and places to eat, is a 12-15 minute walk away. We'd highly recommend renting a car to explore the island, including Chora and the mountain villages.

Having our own plunge pool was the highlight of the day. The villa was quiet, private, and very spacious, with useful extras like robes, slippers, a hair dryer, dishes, coffee, bottled water, and toiletries. The service was wonderful, with someone always available, and breakfast had a great selection of fresh food each morning. We loved our stay at Utopia Suites and Villas. They offer free pick-up from the port or airport and can arrange rides whenever needed. Since we didn't rent a car, it was stress-free to have them call taxis. Agios Prokopios beach and its restaurants are about a 10-15 minute walk away, and the bus stop is right next to the hotel. The bus costs €2.10. It exceeded my expectations.

The property was clean and presentable, but the stay fell short on privacy, comfort, and convenience. We were given an “upgraded” room with a private pool, yet the trimmed-down plants meant neighbors could see in. Inside, there were no dresser drawers or closet, nowhere to put toiletries, and the drapes did little to block light or provide privacy. Getting there was underwhelming: a dirt road leads to a paved entrance, but there's no proper place to stop and unload luggage. Check-in still had Covid-era plastic barriers. The location is inconvenient too. Walking to town felt unsafe with narrow roads and fast traffic, so a car seemed necessary. Parking was a dusty dirt lot far from the rooms, and the walk passed barking dogs, roosters, and a deserted waterpark.

The staff were very warm and attentive, and helped arrange taxis and rental cars. We were upgraded to a larger room, which had a nice view and good places to stargaze. Room service food was good, and they brought delicious drinks during the day when we ordered. The beaches are a quick drive away. I expected a luxury hotel, but this is more like an Airbnb with some amenities. If you expect full luxury hotel service, you'll be disappointed; as an Airbnb, it offers more than most. You need to rent a car here. Walking to the beach is dangerous, and it's not walkable. The parking lot is a bit far from the rooms, and a big dog barks and growls as you pass. There's also noise from a nearby water park. The rooms were okay, but the outdoor facilities need updating. Amenities aren't available all day, and the gym closes at 10:30. It's very small and outdated. Room service ends a bit early, and you have to pay each time rather than charge it to your room. Breakfast was just okay; by the time we arrived later in the morning, many options were picked over. The bed was okay, set on a slightly raised platform on the floor.
