Athos Hotel

The hotel is in a lovely spot right by the Harbour, and the pool is large, though there was no lifeguard. It's clean, but it needs updating. Water goes everywhere when you shower, and the air conditioning works but could do with an update too. Breakfast is basic but adequate. Soft drinks at the bar cost €2.50. They're poured from large bottles, sometimes flat, and that can add up if you're travelling with children. The supermarket right near the hotel sells cans for 39 cents, and its own Greek mosquito repellent is worth buying. The Jungle Formula I bought didn't work well. There's no entertainment or anything for children.

The small lift and not very spacious room were the only downsides. We had a top-floor room with a spacious balcony, though there wasn't much privacy. There are plenty of nice bars, shops, restaurants and cafes nearby, and the location was perfect. One of the staff, who I assume was the manager, was very polite and helpful. He carried our luggage to the room and let us leave it at the hotel for a few days while we went to Mykonos and Santorini. We returned for one night before our flight home.

The pool area was good. The sunbeds were put away each evening, but we had no trouble finding a couple when we were there. It's a nice, friendly hotel, basic but clean, just the job for Greece. The rooms were okay, though the bathrooms could use an update and the showers could be better. If you're larger than average, the showers will be a challenge. Breakfast is very basic, and the choices are limited if you arrive late.

The pool was big, clean and lovely, and the staff were really nice. Breakfast was a good continental style. It's very quiet here, yet just a few minutes from the Tavernas and shops.
