The food was amazing, and they handled my gluten-free needs since I have coeliac disease. The owners were really nice, and we liked the place enough to add another night. Our room was clean, though there was no air conditioning; visiting at the end of August, we didn't need it. We arrived by bus in the afternoon, and the owner helped us get on the morning bus to Samaria gorge so we could hike it, then climb gigilos the following day. It's very quiet here, and the hotel isn't fancy.

The people were kind, which is why I gave two stars instead of one. Before the trail, we bought a sandwich and a croissant, but they were expensive and really bad: industrial bread and cheese, plus a dry croissant for 3€. The shop by the parking area has better things.

We only stopped for a little wine, cheese, olives and bread before dinner; we didn't stay overnight. It was the best food we had anywhere in Crete, and I still wish we'd taken home litres of their white wine. A really memorable snack.

We got in late from sougia and were glad to see the owner's family sitting outside. They found us a lovely table, and we had a great dinner. The portions were full, the food was delicious, with excellent quality and strong, lovely spices. I was stuffed, and the prices were very fair. Thanks to the family!

I can't comment on the hotel since I didn't stay there, but the food was horrendous. Our Klados travel bus stopped here for breakfast on the way to the Samaria gorge. Three coffees and three croissants cost 15 Euro. The croissants were the stalest we've ever had, possibly four days old, and the coffees were tiny cups of instant coffee. They could easily have bought fresh pastries from nearby bakeries. It felt like the place was taking advantage of tourists. If you can choose, don't go. If you can't, bring snacks and don't spend your money there.
