Porto Heli Apartments

Those weeks in Porto Heli always seem to fly by, and heading back to Milan leaves us a little sad. We’ve spent at least eight summers in Palekastro, staying in an apartment on Yiannis and Theodoulos Santimpantakis’s property. The apartments sit on a small hill along the road to Vai, a short way from the village, among olive and peach trees with a view over Palekastro’s little port and the bay of Kouremenos. They’re traditional stone buildings, well built and kept in excellent condition, with two rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchenette in each. The Santimpantakis family handles cleaning and upkeep very professionally, and we’ve never had a problem in all those years. We’ve always felt welcomed and enjoyed the genuine warmth of everyone there. Our family is two adults and three boys, though in the last two years only four of us have stayed in the apartment so we’d have more room as the children have grown. Each time we say goodbye, we tell the Santimpantakis family we’ll be back as soon as we can after winter. We even planned to return after the frightening year of 2020, when the covid pandemic made us worry that travel abroad might not be possible.
