Avragonio

We’ve been coming back for almost two decades, and can’t wait to return again. Avragonio is a real treasure in the Zagori mountains, above the stunning village of Papingo, with lasting views of the Gamila rocks and surrounding peaks. The hosts are kind, attentive, and clearly passionate about sharing their region. Their hospitality makes you feel at home, and their suggestions for local walks, food, and hidden spots were spot-on. The guest houses feel magical, built of stone and wood in a traditional style while still offering modern comforts. Each room is distinctive and cozy, with thoughtful touches and a warm atmosphere. The shared spaces and terraces are lovely places to sit with coffee or a glass of wine and take in the scenery. It’s an authentic, peaceful experience of Greek mountain life.

Keep in mind Papigko takes a lot of turns to reach, so prepare your stomach for the drive. Once there, the hotel itself is unbelievably beautiful: the traditional architecture, lovely interior and exterior, and all the plants and flowers feel lovingly done. The mountain view is amazing, and breakfast offers a huge choice, more than enough. Service was okay, though there’s no one around in the afternoon.

The location was excellent, close to parking and local restaurants, and the mountain view was spectacular. Our apartment was very warm, with its own heating, a fireplace, and distinctive architecture and aesthetics. The staff were friendly, breakfast was adequate, and we had an excellent stay at Avragonio.

Parking nearby may be hard to find. Apart from that, we really liked this special place. Everything was clean and nice, and breakfast was good and tasty.
