Byzantino Hotel Patras

The room seemed tidy at first, and the double bed was spacious, with no uncomfortable gap between the sides. But it stayed bright even with the blinds and curtains closed, felt damp, and had an unpleasant smell. The worst part was the toilet: despite a “freshly cleaned” sticker, there was a visible urine mark on the seat. My partner and I used a nearby restaurant's restroom instead. The location is the one clear advantage, close to the main square with a car park right beside the property. The breakfast room looks lovely, yet the plates, glasses and even chairs were dirty. That put me off eating there and made me question the staff's general hygiene standards. Staff were passable, but not especially helpful. I raised the cleanliness problems with the manager directly, and she seemed neither interested nor willing to put them right.

Our room was fine, and the location is excellent. Breakfast, though, was embarrassing. The hotel showed such contempt for its guests that it couldn't manage real coffee, fresh juice, decent muesli or freshly baked goods, things almost any cafe on the same street could have served. Eat breakfast somewhere else.

Right in the centre of Patras, with clean surroundings and staff who were polite and helpful. Breakfast was decent too.

The location is nice, and I might have overlooked the hotel's need for renovation if the staff hadn't been the bigger problem. I haven't stayed anywhere with people this unpleasant. Actually, they weren't exactly rude, just seemed bored to speak to us at all. During our two days there, the only thing we barely got was a “bye” at check-in and check-out.
