Kamares Villa

The setting makes Kamares Villas a great base for exploring the dramatic scenery and traditional villages of the Deep Mani peninsula. Gythio is lively, with lots of cafes and restaurants, and the villas are just outside town. We spent three delightful nights at Kamares Villas. An architectural firm in Athens designed them with inspiration from Mani’s historic tower houses. The thoughtful two-level layout has individual apartments, each with its own forecourt and private verandah. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, with crisp bedding, soft fresh towels replaced daily, and immaculate cleanliness. The owners run the place with real care and professionalism, and their warm oversight made for a relaxing stay. Breakfast each morning was superb, prepared by the loveliest cook, though I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name. You could tell how much care and pride went into every dish and cake. I had fun trying to guess what was in her delicious Greek pies and local delicacies, and our conversations, mostly using gestures, facial expressions, and Google Translate, brought us a lot of joy. One local herb was amusingly called the “two-faced fool” because it supposedly mimics other flavours. I was sure I could taste dill! We left rested, well-fed, and warmly looked after. Highly recommended.

We really liked where the guesthouse sits, right in a big olive grove and well placed for exploring East Mani. Our rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and breakfast on the pretty terrace had excellent local dishes with something different to try each day. It was our second stay, and we spent a lovely week being looked after by Miss Cristina, cook Matoula, miss Sotiria at reception, and the rest of the staff. We’re already hoping to return next year.

We had fantastic views over olive trees and the mountains from the excellent rooms, and everyone was so friendly. Breakfast was a highlight too, especially the coffee and Greek yogurt with grapes.

The place was cared for down to the plants and greenery around the buildings, and everything was clean. We felt at home in what had the feel of an authentic Greek country house. Its traditional architecture fits naturally into the landscape, with hills and mountains dotted with old noble towers. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day, with homemade sweet and savory treats to choose from. Thank you so much!
