Aegli Hotel

We loved it enough that we’re coming back again and again. I’d give this place 100%, and its listing deserves more stars. It’s family run, and the host and her brother were wonderful people who went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. The food, hospitality, location, view, and price were all the best. You simply can’t get better. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport and literally two seconds from the beach. There’s a private beach on the grounds, with views over mouse island. Our bedroom was really nice, and from the amazing view you can see the Albania mountains as well as jets coming in along the flight path, which is breathtaking. Breakfast was included in our rate, and it was tasty and well cooked.

The room, breakfast, and air conditioning all fit the hotel’s category, and everything worked very well. Its location is very good, with a lovely view of an island and a church. It also looks out over the airport, which makes for a unique and fascinating experience. We had a very good stay.

The staff were warm and attentive, and the receptionists had good information for booking tours or getting local tips. Public transport is right by the entrance, with stops in both directions. Buses are generally reliable, though they can run late or arrive full at busy times, so leave some room in your plans. We spent a week here and enjoyed it. This is an older, modest two-star hotel that’s kept clean and tidy. The atmosphere is simple, quiet, and relaxing. If you’re after luxury, you’ll want to look elsewhere to avoid disappointment. Breakfast is basic but has the essentials. The views of Pontikonisi are lovely, and you may see planes landing nearby. It’s close to a busy main road and the airport, but the well-sealed windows keep most of the noise out for a peaceful rest. There’s a lift and a ramp at the entrance, which helps, though the traffic-heavy road right outside could be difficult for wheelchair users. Across the street, Aegli Café and Restaurant serves delicious food and has a small private beach down a short flight of stairs. There’s no disability access to the beach, and no paddleboards, kayaks, or similar gear for rent, so bring your own if you want to use them.

We stayed one night after our flight was cancelled. The room was clean but very dated, and I’d have hated to spend a whole week there. There was loud music, karaoke, and plastic glasses. The food was good, though, and the guests were mainly Polish, so it wasn’t really for the Brits.
