Creta Mare

This was my second time bringing my painting retreat to Creta Mare Hotel, and it feels like coming home. The staff are caring and warm, like family, and the rooms are clean. We enjoy breakfast on the terrace, and each visit the hotel seems even better. It’s peaceful, with sea views and direct beach access, but only a two-minute walk from the center of Plakias. You hear the waves instead of the town. I can’t wait to come back.

The staff are amazing people, and breakfast was really nice. The rooms are large and very clean, with strong Wi-Fi and a great view. There’s also a small private beach with trees to sit under during noon, plus parking. It’s a very quiet place in a calm city on Crete’s south shore, with plenty of taverns nearby where you can eat and watch the sunset. This was an unexpected find.

A calm room with good beds, a lovely ocean view, and a spacious balcony. We had everything we needed, and breakfast was simple but lovely. The area has less traffic, and we’d recommend this hotel.

The location and breakfast were good, honestly, but the rest of this was a terrible experience. Nobody was at reception when we arrived, and we waited about 30 minutes for someone to bring the key. I’d booked for three people with three separate beds, but got a room for two with one bed for me and my 17-year-old son, plus a small, ugly, very uncomfortable extra bed for my daughter. When I tried to discuss it with the owner, he said he was very old and sick and couldn’t help me. The balcony door couldn’t be opened because the neighbors were smoking constantly. AC cost an extra 8 euro. There were hairs from previous guests in the bathroom, the shower cabin was too small, and the towels were very old, though clean. There was also a strong, unpleasant smell from the bathroom canalisation. The breakfast area furniture and the room furniture should be changed, and the bathroom canalisation system needs renovation to get rid of the smell. The cutlery was very low quality too. It’s a pity, because I’d read requests before booking and had some expectations.
