Atlantica Caldera Bay

The breakfast was great, as were the breakfast area and the outdoor surroundings. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the balcony was nice. Platinas also has great beach tavernas. But we were really disappointed not to get sunbeds at the pool or beach. They were all taken, and we had to go elsewhere before realizing we needed to be there by 8 am. When we asked about more beds, we were told, “then you should see high season”. The pool was icy cold, and the red flag meant we couldn’t swim in the ocean. Our bathroom hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived and didn’t seem very well cleaned or updated afterward either. The toilet seat was old and worn, the walls hadn’t been wiped, and the shower curtain was stained.

I’d still recommend this place for its location and easy access to the beach. It’s right on the beach, close to bars and restaurants, and there’s a bus stop with a direct route to Chania Old Town. Reception staff were genuinely friendly and always ready to help, and the hotel was clean. Our room felt dated, and the strong tobacco smell wouldn’t go away. Breakfast had plenty of options, but became repetitive. There seemed to be a focus on pork dishes, which may limit choices for people who don’t eat or like pork. The hotel could use some improvements.

The breakfast had lots of food, and the pools were nice. The other food was good too. One problem is the sunbeds are always full. I wish someone checked whether the people using them actually stay at the hotel. I’d recommend getting one at 6am.

The beach was lovely, and we could always find beds there, though getting one by the pools meant joining the early birds. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly. The hotel and apartments are beautiful and well located, with spotlessly clean, well-kept rooms and pool areas. Breakfast was excellent, with loads of choice and plenty to eat. Shops, restaurants, and bars are all close by.
