Lambrinos Suites

The beach is just a minute away, and there’s a small grocery store nearby, with everything you need for a holiday close at hand. We spent 10 excellent days here with the family this summer. The rooms were clean, and the owner and staff were very friendly. There’s a small pool, though we didn’t use it. We only paid the usual extra charges for air conditioning and the safe.

Room 21 had a huge balcony, and the pool was small but actually warm enough for me to enjoy, which is rare. We’ve just come back from a lovely 10-night stay at lambrinos suites. The apartments were clean, the owner was friendly, and the location was perfect, about 2 minutes from the main strip and 5 minutes from the beach. I’d definitely recommend it. I’d never been to this part of Crete before and was pleasantly surprised.

The first floor room we moved to was perfectly respectable, the sort of normal room most reviews seem to describe. Getting there, though, meant spending two nights in room 18, and that was enough for me. I asked to move as soon as I saw it, but was told they were full and to check again in the morning. Then I was promised a two bedroom suite for the next day, but after some mix-up we ended up in a one bedroom room instead. No discount, freebies, or apology, just explanations. I won’t return and can’t recommend it. Room 18 is below ground and feels like a cellar. There’s just one window by the entrance, hidden behind a heavy curtain, and the room is very dark, especially in the corners. No terrace either. The entrance is right beside the neighbor’s, and the only view is the clothesline. The kitchen is a tiny, dark nook beside the bed, with a fridge too small to fit much in. The bathtub had permanent smudges, the shower curtain was stained at the bottom, and cockroaches came through the ventilation slits in the upper corner. My four-year-old spotted a giant ant on the floor, and I nearly died. Luckily we had her toy shovel to deal with it. We got two during our stay.

The room was nice, and the cleaning lady was wonderful, but reception and the rest of the staff were terrible. The listing mentioned a pool bar and gym, but neither exists. Staff said they haven’t had them for many years. Behind our bed were two thin windows with no curtains, so once the sun rose the room was full of light. Won’t go back!
