Naftilos

My room was very clean, with a fantastic sea view, and breakfast was tasty. The hotel gets a three-star rating, which I don’t understand because it deserves more. Rania and her colleagues are such friendly people, attentive and caring, and they go out of their way to help. I can’t recommend the place enough.

We came as three girlfriends and were really pleased. The place exceeded my expectations. It was very clean, the breakfast was good, and the location makes it easy to get around. A special thank you to Ms. Rania Anassi for being so attentive.

The area is quiet, with lovely surroundings, and the rooms have an amazing view. The air conditioning worked great. Staff were super friendly, spoke English very well, and were always helpful. There’s a very nice beach and beach bar a short walk away. Pythagoreio is about 2 km away, an easy walk or a 6€ cab ride, with plenty of restaurants, ice cream shops, and stores for anything you need. I’d definitely come back.

The beach nearby was a peaceful, free spot with very few people. The water was warm and calm, with no currents or big waves, and sandy ground around 1.50-1.60 m underwater. There’s a shaded walk to two nearly empty beaches, one beside a white Chapel under Tamaris trees. It’s also a pleasant walk along the coast from Samos Marina and its bar into Pythagoreion. The town has ancient ruins, the Heraion temple area, and the Eupalinos Water Tunel, which supplied the old Samos Town and its 60,000 residents 25 centuries ago. Pythagoras lived there too, and the Temple of Hera was Greece’s first large stone temple, around 2,500 years ago. Naftilos Hotel is thoughtfully designed, with sea views from all the rooms and balconies. The restaurant, open most of the day, and the bar sit on a large, shady terrace overlooking the sea and trees. In the middle, a garden with palm trees, rosebushes, and prickly pear cactus curves around the pool and sunbeds. The open air bar has umbrellas and comfortable seats with a sea view, and a discreet, friendly woman provides swimming towels. Breakfast runs from 7:30 to 10:00 and offers plenty of options, including Greek choices and authentic Greek sweet pastries with little sugar and almost no fat. The room cleaners and restaurant staff are sincere and dedicated. Most dishes were well prepared, authentic Samos family food, including Souvlaki, Mussaka, Giuvetsi, Greek salads, and the wonderful Naftilos salad. They also have great local Samos wines, among them the legendary Vakakis domain’s Theorem dry white, with the taste of Samos Muscat, as well as wines with “Pythagorean” names. Job well done!
