This was our third stay at Kapsaliana, and I’m still unsure whether we’ll come back. It’s a beautiful property in a location we like, though it’s very remote and won’t suit anyone who wants to be near everything. The accommodation has always been clean, and the food is wonderful. What changed for us was the hospitality. On earlier visits, the staff seemed to genuinely love the place and its guests, and the service was the best part. During our latest, longest stay, it felt lacking, especially from the restaurant staff. We also weren’t thanked for being repeat guests, though we heard other guests thanked and given gifts. We used to value how intimate it felt, but new villas seem to be added each time we return. Breakfast was already crowded, and I can only imagine it getting more so over the next few years. We’ve made a special trip there before, but it’s a very long journey for us, and I don’t know if we’ll make it again.

In October 2025, I brought seven people to Crete for an art workshop and booked eight wonderful nights at Kapsaliana Village. The place felt like a work of art itself, and the location gave us a full experience of Crete. The rooms had a soulful feel, the staff were hospitable, and the food was excellent. We also enjoyed a cooking class, olive oil tasting, and the wellness amenities. Everything went beyond what I expected, and I’m long overdue in thanking Kapsaliana Village for making the workshop epic in every way.

We loved our stay at Kapsaliana Village. The restored former village is beautiful, set in the mountains with the sea of Crete in the distance. It feels off the beaten track but is easy to reach from Rethmyno, away from touristy areas while still offering a touch of authenticity. Our villa had its own terrace and sun beds, a very comfortable bed, and all the comforts we needed. The pool was divine, the gardens lovely, and the food was great. The buffet breakfast was the best I’ve ever had. It’s an idyllic setting.

Set around 400 metres above sea level in the mountain foothills, this is a small village in its own right, once deserted and now converted into a hotel and grounds with just 25 rooms. It’s truly stunning, with lovely green views, and makes a great luxury hideaway. There’s a pretty village with two tavernas about a kilometre away, and plenty of things are within reach. Totally recommended.

I’ve never stayed anywhere more tranquil. Everything felt beautiful, from the food to the surrounding nature, and time seemed to slow down. It’s just right for a proper escape. We’re planning to prescribe ourselves a trip here every year or two 💊 🏖️ A special thanks to Kostas for looking after us so 🙏🏼
