What made the biggest difference for me was the staff. They were kind, remembered us, and made us feel wanted there. The service was brilliant. The hotel and rooms were immaculate, with spacious rooms, a lovely view, and good facilities. The sky lounge was a highlight, especially for watching the incredible sunset. We could walk to the old town in a short time, and there were a couple of shops close by. It never felt overcrowded, and we could get sunbeds easily. There’s also a nice beach nearby that’s great for snorkelling. I couldn’t recommend this hotel more!

The food was very good, and I found the price reasonable. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. There are some minor flaws, but the hotel is clean and well maintained. Although it isn’t centrally located, it’s closer to the Old Town than it looks. There’s a small, quiet beach nearby that’s good for children, plus grocery stores and restaurants. For a sea view, ask for a room on the 5th floor or above. Highly recommended! Greetings from a Polish family with kids :)

We stayed in early May and had a perfect visit. The hotel was clean and well maintained, with large, well-appointed rooms. It was quiet, and the weather was great. The food was excellent, and the friendly staff were always helpful. Rethymno is a 20 to 30 minute walk away. Our friends stayed in town, but preferred our spot just outside it, with a pool. I’d happily return and highly recommend it.

The staff really made our stay at Macaris special. Everyone was so friendly, and Pannayotis deserves a particular shout-out for being wonderful. We had a fantastic time. Our room was spacious with fantastic views, and the pool was great, though I think it might be hard to get a poolside lounger when the hotel is busier. Breakfast was very good, and the rooftop restaurant had a fantastic view too. Thanks, everyone!

The pool area is small, and even a couple of kids playing can make it hard to enjoy some peace and quiet. There aren’t enough sunbeds for all the guests, and there’s little room around the pool. You can only sunbathe if people nearby choose not to put up their umbrellas. The pool area was also infested with ants. An adults-only hotel would be a better choice.
