Sillelis Rooms

The room’s central village location was a plus: the beach, restaurants, cafes and mini markets were all very close. The kind woman who greeted us was lovely too. But our stay didn’t compare well with other places friends booked nearby for the same dates and price, and our own past stays in cheaper rooms around Edipsos, Arkitsa and Kavos. The room was small and not especially clean. Cables on the walls, including by the TV, looked messy, and there were stains and signs of old repairs. The taps and kitchen sink had salt deposits, and the plastic cabinets were yellowed with age. The bathroom wasn’t acceptable to me: there’s no shower, so water gets everywhere when you bathe, and the curtain doesn’t help. Hot water depended on sunshine because it’s solar heated. When we came back one night, there was none. The kitchenette had very old, worn plates, glasses, cups and cutlery. There was no sponge or dish soap. When we asked, we were told to buy some at the mini market. There was no mosquito repellent either, though there were screens everywhere. Practically and appearance-wise, this wasn’t a positive experience for us.

The only real drawback was the climb up all those stairs to the second floor, if that’s where your room is. Inside, though, the room was fairly roomy and smelled clean. It had a small kitchenette with the basics and a good-sized fridge that cooled really well. The balcony looked out diagonally toward the sea, and with the shutters cracked open at night, you could hear the waves. The sea was very close, and the hostess was friendly and helpful.

For 50€, it just wasn’t worth it. We looked for somewhere else as soon as we arrived, but this was the only room available. The place needs renovation: a cable had been run through a dug-out wall that was left unplastered, with bricks visible inside. The wall behind the bed was dirty, and so was the ceiling in spots. There was no proper shower, so bathing left water all over the bathroom, and there were salt deposits everywhere. The night we returned, there wasn’t any hot water either. The TV was about the size of a tablet and impossible to see anything on.

A quiet place for unwinding, and the owners are really friendly. The room has a kitchenette and basic gear, plus a quiet air conditioner, which is a big plus. The fridge works very well too, though it’s noisy. Cleanliness and the state of the facilities are both average. I’d recommend it for a few inexpensive days away, it was 35 € for a triple room.
