The only decent food included was the upstairs meal, which you can have once. I asked if I could pay to eat there again, but it was fully booked for the week, so I’d advise booking it on arrival. Otherwise it was pizza and chips at the pool bar, with a huge queue. This was the week before May half term. Get up ridiculously early if you want a sunbed. The main restaurant food was nowhere near 4-star, and I wouldn’t give it 2 stars for food. Most dishes were cold. The fish was frozen, cold, and chewy; the other option was fatty pork, and a lot of the food was cheap and nasty. We had to eat out, which cost a fortune. Chicken and turkey were on the menu one evening, and several guests ended up in hospital with food poisoning from the undercooked chicken and turkey, which was so tough you couldn’t bite through it. Every guest we spoke to avoided the main restaurant, so the snack bar queue was huge. The guest relations manager was very rude and unhelpful when I complained. She spent minutes talking about herself and what she eats at Greggs in the uk. Our Tui rep was helpful and got us a refund for two meals we’d eaten out. The hotel is clean, the rooms are big, and the staff are friendly, and we met some fantastic friends, including some staff. But children’s extras all cost money: popcorn, crisps, chocolate displayed at the bar for them to see and ask for, plus crepes and ice cream by the pool. I spent a huge amount, almost more than I paid for the holiday, so it didn’t feel all inclusive. Check the small print: you pay for water and for drinks after 11 p.m., and the included drinks were watery. There were no locks on things around the pool and bar areas, and they were very wet, slippery, dirty, and broken. A taxi into tigaki or kos costs 13€ each way, so you can’t walk out to anywhere.

Koni from guest relations made a huge difference to the start of our holiday. I arrived with a serious headache and no tablets, and I was worried about managing while looking after my three children, all under 9. Reception didn’t have any tablets, but Koni immediately went looking elsewhere and found a couple for me. Within an hour I felt much better. She was quick, efficient, and genuinely caring, and clearly takes pride in helping guests feel supported. The White Olive Hotel in Kos was excellent too, with a welcoming atmosphere, great food, and very clean surroundings. I’d definitely recommend it. Thank you again, Koni, for your kindness and outstanding service!

The hotel is pretty isolated. With toddlers, walking distance only gets you to a fruit and veg shop and a small convenience store. The store has amazing iced coffee and a resident macaw called cookie. There’s no pavement on the route, so the bends can feel scary. The hotel shop is tiny, but we could get the things we needed there, like bottled water, baby wipes, and kids’ toys. We had a great stay with three kids and two adults. The buffet was very good for all inclusive, with lots of variety and well-cooked food. It leaned heavily toward German and Eastern European food, alongside English, Greek, and themed dishes. The pools were brilliant for families, with lots to keep everyone busy without being huge or intimidating. The kids especially liked the ice cream kiosk. It costs a little extra, but the price was very reasonable, and the woman working there was lovely too. The kids’ disco was fun. My friend and I learned some Polish songs that turned into real earworms. The kids had the time of their lives. Thanks so much, White Olive.

The staff were helpful and always smiling, and the food was really good, especially the local dishes. The rooms were as they should be, and the location worked well since it’s not far from Kos town.

The hotel itself was lovely, with nice decor and rooms, friendly staff, and good food. The slides and kids’ entertainment were brilliant, the staff were lovely, and the food was good. It ticked most of my priorities. Connie, the Australian woman in guest relations, was brilliant at her job and did everything she could to help with the water problem. I felt bad having to keep going to her. It was out of her hands, but she tried her best. The pools needed better cleaning. By the middle of the day there was all sorts at the bottom, which I assume had blown in from the nearby beach. Also, an item went missing from my makeup bag after the cleaners had been in our room. I’m certain I put it back in the bag, then went to do my makeup later and it had vanished. I told the cleaners and asked if they’d seen it. They said they hadn’t and didn’t speak English, although they’d been speaking with me just fine until I mentioned something was missing. I can’t prove anything, and it’s my word against theirs, but I know where I left it. It felt awful, and after that I started locking my makeup bag in my suitcase, something I’ve never needed to do in other hotels. The main issue was the lack of hot water. We arrived around 11 p.m., found none in the room, and called reception. They told us to run the tap for 10 minutes, but it didn’t help. My husband called back, and they said maintenance would come the next day. He asked whether we could move rooms if it couldn’t be fixed, but the receptionist assured us they’d definitely fix it and a move wouldn’t be needed. The next day Connie told me the whole hotel had a problem because of new pipework, and the water would be turned off for a few hours while maintenance worked on it. Not ideal, but I accepted it. She said we’d have hot water in a few hours. Later our shower was warm enough, though not hot, but by evening it was cold again. I spoke to Connie the next day. She was trying to sort it out, but it was beyond her control. It kept happening until we changed rooms on day 7. That room had hot water, which was amazing, but the day after we moved, the water was turned off across the hotel again for another repair. We were really upset by then. In 10 nights, we had about three hot showers. With two small children and my sensitivity to cold, it really tarnished our stay. They should have tested and fixed the new pipework before opening for the season, because the water issue upset a lot of people.
