Metropolis Hotel

For a two-star place, it’s decent and the location is excellent. The rooms were clean, though unfortunately quite small. Parking around the city is awful, but the man at reception helped us park the car.

The bakery and pastry shop downstairs is a real highlight, and it stays open late, even on Sundays. I got a spacious four-bed apartment at a good rate. The historic building’s interiors were updated in the 2010s and still look fairly current, though several features are already failing and need close attention from a technician to keep things from deteriorating. The basics worked, and the windows did a great job keeping out street noise. The hotel is right in the center, close to everything, but there’s no parking. That didn’t matter to me since I had a bicycle.

The host was really kind and always did his best to find us a parking spot. The hotel was clean, with lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, and they changed our towels every day. It’s right in the center, too. We liked the whole place a lot.

We stayed in one of the refurbished two-room options in the old downtown building. It was clean and pleasant, with comfortable rooms and a bathroom that had enough space. The small balcony looked out over the central street and shops, but it was too noisy to sit out there, and opening the windows wasn’t really an option either. The neighborhood is noisy. The central location is great, though parking can be a bit tricky, as you’d expect. Staff were friendly and helpful, and it works well for a short city break. There’s an elevator, but the place isn’t wheelchair accessible and the stairs may be difficult for people with disabilities.
