Makednos Hotel

We stayed at Makednos from 23-31 August 2025, two families with one and two children, for eight nights at €180 per night with half-board. Our ground-floor room faced the playground. I’m sharing the details for other families considering a stay. The pools were acceptable, with no major problems. The beach was clean, but the water had lots of stones, so it wasn’t sandy as we’d read. The playground was very basic and had some broken equipment. The food was disappointing. Breakfast and dinner were nearly the same each day, with about 90% of the menu repeated. The vegetables tasted like supermarket produce, and fish or seafood appeared only two or three times. One was fried calamari soaked in oil, and another was a fish dish with sauce that didn’t look appealing. The coffee was undrinkable, and there wasn’t an upgrade option even for extra payment. Our room had very soft mattresses with no support and very old furniture. The bathroom door was broken, the lighting was weak, and there was a persistent bad smell from the pipes. Flushing noises from other rooms were disturbing. Quiet hours weren’t enforced, and families talked loudly on the terrace even after 23:00, making it hard to rest, especially with children or if you go to bed early. We left very disappointed. The online reviews seem much more positive than the reality, and the service and quality were far too low for the price. For similar daily costs, we’d recommend renting an apartment and eating at local taverns instead. The experience and food would be much better.

Our room was called ground floor, but it was actually underground, very dark, and had a strong, persistent smell of sewage and mould. I asked to change rooms on two consecutive days and explained that my child has a mould allergy, so this was a health issue. Nobody was willing to help. The receptionist was really nice, but couldn’t do anything. The facilities were old, there was noise in the common area late at night, and the food wasn’t edible. Please read the other reviews about that. I’m writing so people know what to expect, as there are many surprises on arrival. This was our first completely ruined holiday in Greece in over 20 years of visiting every year. Unexpected. Avoid this hotel.

The hotel is nice and in a great location, with a wide, beautiful beach right in front. The food served for breakfast and dinner was the one bad part. Since it’s a half-board hotel and there are no other restaurants within walking distance, we had to rely on it. The food was cold and lacked both taste and quality. Because of the food, I wouldn’t return.

My stay at hotel Makednos was fantastic, especially because of the great food and the excellent service from the reception team.
