Aristides Hotel

The price felt even harder to justify because it was about 50% more than other hotels in the area. The place is far past the point when it should have had a full renovation. Breakfast was the same every day, sometimes with leftovers from the day before. The food was as cheap as it gets, with baloney-like cold cuts and margarine instead of real butter. In the kitchen there was no sponge or dish detergent. There were no mosquito screens, though they did give us an electric mosquito repellent when we asked. The bed was too short for my 1.84m height and had a footboard, so I had to sleep diagonally with my legs sticking out. It was actually two beds pushed together with a gap between them, and just one bedside table. The air conditioning seemed to have two settings, freezing cold or unbearably hot. The bathroom felt like a battlefield. The shower cabin doors were falling apart, and the toilet made such a loud noise when refilling it could wake the dead.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. We had no bath towels or soap, and they left us with just one roll of toilet paper. There was no room service at all. Over the ten days, our bed sheets were never changed. I asked for towels, but they weren't provided. We hadn't brought our own because we expected the hotel to supply them.

The room was very basic, and for the price it was only okay, though nearby hotels cost much more. The breakfast staff were friendly and helpful, but the selection was minimal: feta, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, baguette slices with ham, or yogurt with jam or honey, plus orange juice and coffee. I missed having some traditional pies. The location worked well, about ten minutes on foot to the center of Fourka and five minutes to Fourka beach. There was plenty of guest parking, as well as free street parking.

It's a lovely family hotel, and the building has been renovated. I liked the hosts' attitude, the swimming pool, and the beautiful lawn and olive trees around the grounds. The breakfast isn't very varied, but it has the basics. Good quality for the price, and highly recommended.
