Nami Hotel & Suites

We had a good time in the end, and the staff were five stars. The girl in the dining room was especially kind to us and our little son. We visited in early July with our 1.5-year-old, and the hotel’s atmosphere was fantastic. The location was great, close to both the pedestrian street and the sea, and we liked the swimming pool. Our first room hadn’t been renovated, got no sun, and was terribly noisy, with people in the stairwell and bar music both easy to hear. After the first night we asked to move, and the renovated room was great, with a door and window that closed properly and a terrace outside. There was no broom in the room to sweep up all the sand. The food was average, with little choice. There was no drink menu or waiter, only staff taking dishes away. For a four-star hotel, I’d have expected more food options, a proper dining room, a drinks menu, and table service. I’d also have liked a lot more seafood.

The best parts were how close the hotel was to the beach and the nearby bakery, where you could get good coffee and a nice breakfast. In my opinion, four stars are far too many. I’ve been visiting Greece for over 18 years and have never found a hotel so unwelcoming. When we arrived, there wasn’t even a complimentary bottle of water. Cleaning was really poor. Unless you put out the “Clean my room” sign, they used that as a reason not to come in at all. Shampoo, shower gel, and toilet paper weren’t replaced when they ran out, so we had to ask. Around 7:15 each morning, the cleaners started arguing about who had the most rooms to clean, which was really annoying. The food was mediocre and tasteless. The staff didn’t seem attentive or caring, just there to do the job and seemingly unhappy doing it. There also weren’t enough sunbeds around the pool.

The food was the biggest disappointment. The meals lacked flavor, and the quality wasn’t like what we’ve had elsewhere in Crete. We ended up eating at local tavernas, which were excellent. We wouldn’t choose this hotel again; the stay didn’t meet what we expected from a four-star place. At first, we were given a room that didn’t match the one on our travel agency voucher. When we asked to see the Deluxe renovated room we’d booked, it turned out to be far too small for three people, with barely enough room for our suitcases. The bed was large and fairly comfortable. I’d suggest checking your room when you arrive if you can. I saw other unhappy guests at check-in too. Daily housekeeping was a plus and much appreciated. The pool area was often noisy, and because the rooms open right onto it, it was hard to rest during the day. There’s one proper pool and three very small ones, more like oversized jacuzzis where only 2-3 people could cool off at a time.

Our room was accessible for wheelchair users and had a spacious shower, a comfortable double bed, air conditioning, a refrigerator, and a kettle. There was a table and chairs on the terrace, as well as a clothes dryer. The hotel grounds were lovely, with a dining area and a bar, and the beach was just 50 meters away. We really appreciated the polite, friendly service. Thanks for a pleasant stay!
