Mpelleiko

Staying at Mpelleiko felt special. Nena welcomed me into her grandmother’s home, made me comfortable, and shared lots of information that I really appreciated. The room was very comfortable, with beautiful wooden furniture and great views of Stemnitsa and the mountains. I enjoyed meeting Nena and feeling like part of the family.

Nena is very nice and the place is absolutely beautiful, but we wouldn’t return. For 110€ a night, the bed was really stiff and there was only one thin blanket in -2 degrees. Privacy was a bigger problem: the kitchen and other rooms are just 1m to 4m away, and the owner was noisy in the morning and at night without asking guests to be considerate of each other. We asked them not to clean or enter our room. The next morning, while we were in the kitchen, the cleaner came in quietly. When I asked her to leave because I needed to use the toilet, she insisted on fixing a few more things and stayed for several minutes. It may seem kind, but they don’t seem to care what you want. Breakfast was only an omelette cooked in the oven, bread, and spreads. There were no vegetables, and guests aren’t allowed to use the kitchen except to make tea or coffee. Very disappointing value for money.

The homemade breakfasts were included and all were nice. The house is clean and lovely, and has a very convivial feel. Nena is caring, like an aunt who wants you to be comfortable, and she gave good hiking advice. It’s on the hillside, just a short walk from the village center, and seems perfect for solo travelers.

For traditional rooms and a warm welcome, Mpelleiko is a great place to stay. Nena and her team make the tastiest breakfast, and the bread is freshly baked and super good. Really lovely place.
