Captain's Suites

Our corner room looked out over both the harbor and the street, with fabulous views. The rooms have a quaint feel with their wooden beams, though our split-level room meant stairs and there was a low beam in the bathroom. For those views, I thought it was worth it.

Captain yannis made us feel welcome from the start. The stylish, comfortable apartment had three balconies, two facing the Mediterranean. He also runs boat tours and a restaurant beneath the apartment, serving a varied mix of international food. When we asked to extend our stay, we were given first-class hospitality and felt relaxed and welcome the whole time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, and hope others enjoy it as much as we did. Bravo captain!

Dirty, noisy, and expensive. Paying 70 euros for one night, even after negotiating, is crazy. The bathroom bin was disgusting, the sink clogged, the toilet leaked underneath, and the shower was so low I had to bend my legs to wash, and I’m 173 cm tall. I had to argue to get a regular bill, and then he only wanted cash. This felt like a typical example of why Greece is on the verge of bankruptcy. Luckily, there are positive examples too. This isn’t one.

The harbour views are exceptional, especially from the top apartment with its roof terrace, and the apartments were clean. Most rooms have a balcony for taking in the scenery. The hosts were friendly and chatty, and available all day in the downstairs bar. They also offer luxury yacht rental. There are some things to know: bedrooms are on a mezzanine, reached by a very narrow, steep staircase, with the bathroom on that level too, so it may be difficult if you have mobility problems. Watch your step on the way back to bed after a few local wines. Our bathroom door wouldn’t close properly, let alone lock, so you’ll want to be on very good terms with whoever you’re staying with. The kitchen has only basic facilities, a kettle and hob, with no toaster or coffee facilities. The decor was tired, some lamps had no bulbs, and the floorboards creaked.
