A for Art Design Hotel

This was my third time in Thassos, and I had a super four-day stay at the hotel. The rooms were spotless and had a lovely aesthetic, and the staff were polite and happy to answer any questions. Quiet hours were respected without exception, even on live music nights. Breakfast was very good, and dinner at the restaurant was good too, though a little expensive. It totally lives up to what I expect from a 4-star hotel before booking.

The location is excellent, right in the middle of town, and there's parking for 7€ per day, which seems reasonable. But I wouldn't recommend this place to families with children, especially if you're looking for a hotel closer to different beaches. The breakfast area was stressful. A middle-aged woman kept watching guests at the buffet and following us as we chose food, then coming over to “fix” anything we touched as if we'd done something wrong. She scolded my energetic three-year-old daughter, then tried to laugh it off when I asked what was going on. No one should speak harshly to a small child. It was hard to enjoy breakfast with that going on. The room fridge didn't work, and it was tiny anyway, so our water never got cold. Reception would give us cold water when we asked. The room itself looked artistic at first, but it was old, stuffy, and not very practical. There was no balcony or anywhere to dry towels, swimsuits, or clothes after the sea, so things stayed damp overnight and the room felt even more airless. The old air conditioners barely cooled the room and were noisy. There are lots of artistic objects displayed outside. When children tried to look at or touch them, staff reacted rudely and harshly, telling us to “keep your child away this object is expensive.” I found that tone unnecessarily strict and impolite.

The décor is elegant, but the dishes were mediocre and the manager acted as though we were a nuisance. We booked two weeks ahead, saw our name at the top of the booking list, and came for a birthday celebration. Still, we were seated at the staff service table beside the kitchen pass, like an afterthought. When we asked to move to one of the many empty tables, the manager said they were for regular customers. Our family has been coming to the hotel's restaurant for brunch and dinner since before he was probably born, and we even held our daughter's birthday party there just last year. His attitude made us feel like we were only there to fill a quota, and his tone was sharper than the prices. If arrogance were an entrée, they'd finally have something worth serving.

The staff made us feel special as soon as we arrived, and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The hotel has a cosy, relaxed feel thanks to the lovely décor. Our bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable, and the location was excellent for getting to the town, beaches, ferries, shops, restaurants, and more.
