Meliton Hotel

I’ve stayed at Meliton Hotel twice, and the peace, good food, and service are why I’d return a third time. The hotel feels like home, with kind and helpful people, quick check-in and check-out, clean rooms, toiletries provided and replenished when needed, and a large, comfortable bed. The air-conditioning in my room was especially powerful. The pools are roomy enough and kept clean. Some guests can be noisy, though they aren’t trying to disturb anyone; I found their conversations and interactions interesting, and they give the place a lively feel. There are lots of cats around too. Meals are served three times a day. The food is fresh, locally sourced from gardens, and authentic Greek cooking. The menu is limited but quite acceptable for the price, and I complimented the chef. A few other guests said the same. The small shop has the essentials, but there aren’t many other shops nearby, so plan ahead if you need to buy more. The hotel can give details about tours and transport. I found the ferry day trip from Rhodes port to Marmaris, Turkey an interesting shopping experience. The countryside setting is peaceful, but you’ll need a car or motorcycle to explore. The hotel provides the service described on booking.com, and I found it good value and popular. I booked 16 days about four months ahead; when I checked again, all July dates were booked. It’s about a 10-minute drive from the airport. Taxis start at €16-23 one way; the bus is under €3, but check the timetable. You can also rent a scooter at the airport and enjoy the freedom of exploring.

We got a really spacious room for three, with greenery views, a quiet pool, and a partial sea view from the balcony. The room was spotless, and they cleaned it daily. The staff at reception and across the hotel were so kind to every guest, which we really appreciated. The food was always fresh and very good, though a little repetitive. There was Greek night and karaoke during our stay, and we enjoyed the entertainment. With a car, the location is great for sightseeing since it’s in the center of Rhodes island. The food was bland and repetitive, poorly cooked, and much the same each day. There was plain pasta without sauce, while Greek dishes like hummus, souvlaki, and gyros were missing. Desserts were disappointing too, just doughnuts once and hard biscuits for snacks, and ice cream was available only at snack time. Drinks were very limited. When we asked for whiskey, we got a tiny 20 ml pour that barely covered the ice. The bartender refused to make a proper drink, saying the owner was watching and wouldn’t allow it. Our room didn’t look like the photos, had small insects, and the bathroom smelled of urine. The cleaning was far from satisfactory. We were initially given two separate beds instead of the double we had booked, despite traveling as a family with a small child. After requesting a change, we waited three days. We also had to pay extra for air conditioning, though that wasn’t mentioned on Booking. We had an all-inclusive package, but after 10 PM everything cost extra. There were no activities or entertainment for guests. The owner kept watching how much people ate or drank, which made us very uncomfortable. I’ve traveled to many countries, and this was by far the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Poor service, bad food, unclean rooms, and greedy management. Definitely not worth the money. Stay away!

We’re spending our last day here after eight lovely days. The family-run hotel is on the edge of “town”; the small town is about a 20-minute walk away and doesn’t have much, but we liked it. There’s a mini mart on site with the essentials. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the pool is great for lounging. Our room was clean and fresh, with lots of storage, a fridge, and a comfortable double bed. The all-inclusive food isn’t as varied as at places with a huge food hall, but it’s good quality, sometimes basic but delicious, and there was variety across our stay. The bar has a bit of a buzz in the evening without getting too rowdy. It’s easy to get around the island, either on the very cheap bus at €3 one way or with a car or bike rental from reception, which is also cheap and easy.
