Galini

Galini was one of the few places in the village still serving people during the power outage and fire. They made whatever they could without electricity and kept smiling through the chaos. It’s a warm, welcoming spot in Therma, with delicious food and plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices.

We never stayed overnight, but once we found the restaurant we ended up spending loads of time at Galini. The chickpea tortilla and red pepper pesto were standouts. There are lots of vegan and vegetarian choices, and everything we tried was a delight. Such a lovely place, and the best spot in Therma!

Thasos, as he calls himself, was around all the time and clearly cared about his guests. He’s welcoming and also a fan of Vespas and vintage bikes, which made the stay even better. My wife and I were visiting Therme-Samothraki for the first time and had a lovely time at Galini. The rooms are simple, clean, and cozy, with a real Greek feel, and breakfast had lots to choose from.

Being right in the center of Therma was handy, and the rooms had high ceilings, air conditioning, and a big balcony. The waitresses were very nice. The room was listed on booking.com as 20 m2, but when I checked it, it was only 10 m2 including the bathroom. There wasn’t a proper wardrobe, and the sheets and towels were changed just once during our 10 days. Breakfast was okay, though it could be better. I also asked the host about borrowing two bikes to ride around the island. On my first ride, after about 50 m, I changed gears and the chain changer broke and smashed the back wheel. If that had happened in traffic, a car couldn’t have stopped in time.
