We booked nearly two months ahead, but our reservation was cancelled just eight days before the holiday. We were told the hotel would stay closed because the owner had sold the business. We were really upset and couldn’t find another place for those dates, so we had to cancel our trip to Portaria. Getting our deposit back was another ordeal. We had to chase them for over three weeks, and it only came through just before we were going to ask the Hellenic police for guidance. It was basically a nightmare.

There’s a really nice view, but it was extremely hot inside and there was no air conditioner. My Fitbit Sense showed my core temperature at peaks as +3.1 degrees Celsius above my baseline, which means 39 degrees Celsius. That can be harmful to your health.

The staff were the best part, so friendly and welcoming. The homemade breakfast was generous, and the village is lovely, with plenty of restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, bakeries and other places to browse. The lobby feels calming and homey, and they let guests play the board games they provide, like chess. The rooms were good and looked like the pictures, and the view was astounding. There are some downsides: no AC, so it gets really hot in summer, parking is hard to find, and the Wi-Fi doesn’t work.

The breakfast was very basic, there’s no A/C, and the neighbors were really loud. The rooms are small, with terrible soundproofing, and the prices were very high compared with actual 4-star hotels nearby and what this place offers. Overrated and overpriced, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

A pleasant, simple minimalist hotel with warm service and a hearty breakfast served in several stages. There’s a nice view toward Volos from the entrance porch. No parking close by.
