The honey is worth picking up before you go. We came in late December and really liked staying in this stone-built hotel, which Vaios runs with his family. The rooms were clean and warm, and he and his wife served us a delicious breakfast with local treats. Vrontero sits right on the Greece-Albania border, a lovely setting for nature and a glimpse of traditional farm life.

We didn't get to use the cosy fireplace in our room, but Al Monte still made a great base for our stay. We visited the Prespes area at an unpopular time of year and had a really good experience. Vaios made us feel completely at home, and we had a long, hearty chat about life in the area. His honey was delicious too, so we took a jar home. We'd love to return during the colder months as soon as we get the chance.

Mr Vaios and his wife were wonderful hosts, and breakfast came with delicious homemade pies. Be sure to try his homemade honey, and you can buy some from him too. The hotel is a great place to stay somewhere quiet, just 10 minutes from Saint Achileios.

Vrontero is a laid-back village in the Prespes area, and this hotel is right at its heart. It was recently restored and very well looked after, with wooden floors, handcrafted furniture, and a homely feel. It was also lovely and warm during the winter cold. Vaios and his wife made my friends and me feel comfortable when we stayed over New Year's Eve. They serve breakfast, and can provide meals or dinner on request. They really try to accommodate all kinds of requests. I'd highly recommend staying here.

It feels like stepping back in time, and the hotel fits beautifully with its surroundings. The host is always smiling and very helpful. Make sure you try his honey!
