Honestly, we could have spent every day sitting on the balconies with Babu and Mia, the owners' cat and dog who adopted us, and taking in the view. My son and I came hoping for a peaceful, authentic Guatemalan experience, and got even more than that. The place sits on a cliff above what I think is the most beautiful lake in the world, with incredible sunrises and sunsets. We had locally grown coffee every day and I slept better than I ever have. Yvonne and Jaime were exceptional hosts. They made delicious meals to order each day, and we took day trips to nearby towns. We also walked daily through the coffee and avocado fields right outside our door. When it was time to leave, I really wasn't ready to go. I'll be back again and again. Some days my father and I didn't feel like going around the lake towns. We just sat on the porch in rocking chairs with coffee and books, watching clouds move past the volcanoes and fade over the water. It's a quiet, rustic place with a view over Lake Atitlan toward the volcanoes, and a good base for visiting the towns around the lake.

Yvonne treated us like VIP guests from the start, greeting us with fresh watermelon juice and looking after us throughout. She cooked delicious meals and accommodated my dairy and gluten allergies. The room was spotless, including the floors, and the bed was soft and comfortable. Rancho Fortaleza is tucked away and quiet, but town is just a tuk tuk ride away. My boyfriend and I had an amazing time and will definitely stay here again.

From booking through all the follow-up, the service was excellent. They even checked in to make sure we made it to the hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the food was delicious and filling, and the staff paid attention to everything we needed. We'll definitely come back.
