From the picture windows, the views are breathtaking. The building is a retro-cool 16-story design from the 50s or 60s, standing in the historic center where almost nothing else rises above four or five floors. The warped wooden floors look bizarre beside the steel, glass, and marble lobbies on each level, and could use a little fumigating.
This building makes you feel at home.
This building is practically two connected towers, 16 stories in all, supporting each other at the center. Depending on the angle, especially from far away, it can look like one tower. It was the tallest building in the Historic Center, built before modern construction was banned in Zone One. I believe it was still under construction during the 1976 earthquake, and people say changes were made on the fly to help it withstand future events. In its day, it rivaled the Palace of Justice and the Ministry of Finance. It used to house law offices and was said to be the other Palace of Justice. Now it serves a range of purposes, which is useful given its location near the middle of the Historic Center. It also has some of the city's best views to the east, west, north, and southwest. I'm sharing pictures of the Ninth Street entrance from 13 years ago, when the Pacaya volcano erupted.
They shut off the elevators overnight, despite this being a 16-story building. That shows a serious disregard for mobility, health, and consumer rights.
This building has apartments as well as a range of offices and services. It's in a very central spot, just a block from the central park and the Sixth Avenue promenade. There’s no parking for visitors at the building, though there are several parking options close by, and security is provided.
