Novohostal B&B

The facility itself was very clean, but what you find on arrival differs quite a bit from the online information. NovoHostal B&B advertises shuttle services, yet there wasn't a shuttle from them when I got there. The place has a small sign on a pole to the right, so it's easy to miss. From outside it looks like a military base, surrounded by local police in a gated community. You can't get in until you call the front desk.

A lovely place, very safe, and the people here are super friendly and helpful.

My wife and I had a really uncomfortable two-night stay. The room was boiling, and on the first night there was no toilet paper. There are signs all over the walls telling you how to behave, and the owner seemed focused on money and insisted on cash. The shower was horrible, either freezing or boiling hot, with no other settings. We also noticed that $60 had gone missing from my wife's special wallet in her suitcase. When we returned on our last day, the wallet was still in the closed suitcase, but the cash was gone. We can't prove who took it, but I would avoid this place. In response to the manager: we left at 3am on the day we discovered the theft. You were helping an older woman load her suitcase into a truck, then spoke Spanish with her throughout the ride and helped with her bags at the airport. When would we have told you? We were already very uncomfortable staying there, and then this happened. I'm not sure how you can investigate when you don't know what suitcases we had or how we left things in the room. Suggesting we're lying is sad. I wouldn't be surprised if this had happened before and people felt too uncomfortable to say anything.

The owner and staff were amazing, really accommodating and willing to work around my schedule. The location felt safe and was very close to the airport. I could walk to an Artisan Market and the Zoo across from the airport. I arrived early after private transportation from Xela, and they still let me check in. The room may have been vacant that day, though.
