Hotel Maya Excelsior

The person who checked us in was nice, and the location, just 15 minutes from the airport, is why I picked it. I didn’t realize the rooms were in such bad shape. Things are falling apart, and our bathroom didn’t even have knobs to turn the hot or cold water on. The rooms need work, especially the bathrooms. This was the first time I felt I got what I paid for. I definitely won’t stay here again.

The room was clean, and it’s a decent spot for walking around the old Art Deco town. But the hotel looks like it was nice a long time ago and hasn’t aged well. I wouldn’t recommend it.

It’s close to everything, but the hotel is old and my room was small, like a bad basement room. It was very damp, with black damp spots on the wall. For the price, there are nicer rooms in the area. It might be okay for local tourists, but definitely not for foreign tourists.

The internet was out for two full days. Staff said the signal was bad in the area during business hours, but it stayed down overnight too. They’d say “okay” when I raised it, without checking into the problem. After I kept pushing, they apparently got someone to fix it. Then it ran at 7 mbps for 1 1/2 days. My room problems followed a similar pattern. They first put me in room 305, where there was no hot water. A staff member came in, turned the water on, called it hot, and switched it off before I could touch it. He kept repeating that it was hot or would get hot eventually, while I kept turning it back on. It was absurd. They moved me to another room, where the cold water knob on the shower was broken, but the hot water knob worked. The water was warm rather than hot, but that was enough for me.
