Quetzalroo Boutique Hostel

Quetzalroo has been my regular place in the city since 2014. It’s still my pick years later: clean, handy, and full of character. Now we just need those string lights back on the roof!

I only booked two nights before my flight out of Guatemala, but I would gladly have stayed longer. The staff at Quetzalroo were really friendly and accommodating, and the breakfasts were delicious. It’s an easy walk to good food in Zone 10, and the hostel is clean and well maintained, even the shower drains properly, which isn’t true everywhere.

Marcos knows a lot about Guatemala City and the country, and was so helpful. He offered to take me to a coffee shop and the biggest local market so I could get a feel for the city and its people. My room was basically its own apartment, with a living room and kitchen all to myself. I wish I’d booked one more night. The property is in a nice part of Guatemala City, too.

The shared kitchen is nice, the wifi works well, and the area felt safe. I also visited the Popol Vuh and Traje museums at the nearby university. Marcos, Peanut, and the rest of the staff make the place feel special, and it was very clean and welcoming. The price felt reasonable for the location and quality. If you’re in Guatemala City after landing or for a couple of days before a flight, it’s a great choice. If Marcos has time, he may show you good places to eat, drink, or explore.
