Everything is within walking distance, and little tuk-tuks are around if you need a ride. Richard, the owner, knows a lot about Guatemala and its history and was a big help during our trip. It’s an interesting place to stay.

The staff made the stay at Posada Los Encuentros especially memorable. They were genuinely friendly and attentive, and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The inn itself is a charming, unusual oasis in an original setting, with a distinctive theme that makes it feel like an escape from the ordinary. My time there felt magical, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend Posada Los Encuentros to anyone looking for a memorable, high-quality stay.

We spent 2.5 days touring the little villages around the lake with Richard. He’s a knowledgeable, congenial host and guide who’s especially interested in supporting local artists and small industry. Our room was practically a studio apartment, with a refrigerator, sink, and 2 burners. A lovely woven blanket covered the bed, and there was a 5 gallon jug of pure water on the landing outside. The courtyard is full of medicinal plants, laid out like a maze.
