Hotel Villa Santa Catarina

The restaurant is decent, prices are fair, and the staff there are polite and provide good service. The hotel itself is pleasant, but the bathroom is basic, around a 2-3 star level. There’s no fan or air conditioning, which could make hot days and nights uncomfortable. Also, it's away from the main city of Panajachel, so finding a tooktook at a fair price to get there can be tricky. Coming back should be easier, since there's more room to bargain, around 50 for the whole tooktook.

From the private balcony in each room and from other spots around the hotel, you can see the lake and its volcanoes. The whole town is in a privileged location, and this hotel makes the most of it with incredible views and a peaceful atmosphere. Flowers, trees, and other natural surroundings make it feel like an oasis. There’s a regular pool and a heated one, both good for relaxing. Staff were always ready to help with a warm smile, and breakfast had delicious options. The hotel is just one block from the lake, so excursions are only a few metres away.

The room was clean and the place looked like the photos. There are some nice shared areas, with ping pong and billiards available. But it got bright in the room by 5 AM because there were no blackout curtains, and a generator house right next to it made constant noise. The front door was pretty thin. Staff were professional, though we didn't get the genuine friendliness we'd found elsewhere. Breakfast was decent, but felt a bit soulless and expensive for what it was.

For the price, this was great value and better than I expected. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated, and the view was stunning. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. I also enjoyed the tasty breakfast and the peaceful garden, full of flowers, trees, cacti, and natural hot springs. Highly recommend!
