Casa Xelaju

I spent only about half my time in Xela, but it was always comforting to have a home to return to. Casa Xelajú is in a handy spot near central park and the bus stop, and the kind staff were always available if I needed help. Having my own place while traveling in Central America works well for me, and it made a great base for exploring Guatemala and nearby countries. The apartment was usually quiet, with a great city view. It had modern plumbing and a filtration system on the main water line, and the internet was stable and fast enough for video calls. This is the first place I look for when planning a trip to Xela, and I plan to come back soon.

I don't regret coming to Xela to study. The town is lovely, the scenery is grand, and I really enjoyed living with a family. At the school, I learned a lot of Spanish from wonderful, highly experienced teachers who care a great deal about their students. The administrative staff were excellent too. This place is a gem!

I booked a three-day private hike from Xela to Lake Atitlan, and there was a last-minute guide change to Monte Verde because the original guide had a family event. It all worked out great. Gilda was helpful throughout, explaining the process and answering my questions by phone and in person once I got to Xela. Communication and organization were great.

The staff are super nice and helpful, and the filtered water means there's no need to brush your teeth with bottled water. The upper floors have beautiful panoramic views. Casa Xelaju is also very central, close to Parque Central and Calvarillo Square. I highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Xela.
