Gucumatz Lakeside Inn

We ended up not staying at the hostel because our plans changed, but Justin was incredibly helpful to our group of five, who were staying at a nearby air b and b. We got into Flores very late after lots of things went wrong, with no food or cash, no tour for the next day, and no way to get around. Even though it was late, Justin arranged an after-hours tour with pickup so we didn't need to go back to Flores. He also gave us airport transport contacts, hosted us for a fantastic breakfast, and shared the number of a local restaurant that delivered to our air b and b. He completely turned the trip around for us, and we're very grateful. Thank you, Justin! The hostel is lovely too.

We wished we'd had more time here. The rooms are spacious, beautifully presented, very clean, and have comfortable beds and pillows. The hostel sits right by the lake in a peaceful, lovely setting where you can swim and unwind. The owner gave us great local advice and was so helpful arranging trips to Tikal, Belize, and elsewhere. It may seem a little out of the way, but there is a local bus or taxi, and the owner responds quickly and helps organize transport. Thank you for the kindness and wonderful hospitality. This place feels like a dream, and I'd tell anyone in the area to stay here.

We only wish we'd stayed longer to make more use of the free paddleboards and kayaks. This was the most amazing hostel we've stayed at, a lakeside hideaway where our travel aches and exhaustion seemed to fade and we could finally rest and recover. Getting there might seem concerning, but Moya explained everything in advance and arranged our visit to Tikal as well as onward transport to Belize.

The best part was having several hammock areas by the water, which made it easy to switch into full relaxation mode. The inn has 30 meters of private, clean shore, with a lovely stretch of beach for swimming or sitting around. We could head straight from our terrace into the warm, clear lake, or take out one of the free kayaks. Mornings brought coffee on the terrace as mist lifted from the water, and the views stayed beautiful through the day. The sunsets over the calm lake were especially striking, with vivid colors in the sky. Our stay at Gucumatz Lakeside Inn felt magical, easily among our most exceptional Airbnb experiences. If you're after a peaceful, beautiful retreat near Tikal, this is it.
