The cabins are my top pick, tucked in greenery above a creek whose sound is relaxing around the clock. There's also a birdwatching tower and a small pool, and the staff are very nice. This reasonably priced hotel in Gracias, Lempira is a bit out of the way, behind the bus station, but once inside the grounds it feels like another world.

The grounds look nice, but our stay went downhill from there. A big fire was burning right behind the room we were about to rent. I asked the woman in charge whether the air conditioning worked, and she said it did. It didn't work when we entered. She eventually got it going by flipping breakers, but it failed again an hour later. When I asked where the breakers were so I could reset them next time, she didn't like that. Then I tried washing my clothes in the pila and was told I had picked the wrong one and should use another. By then I felt like a nuisance. Hotel staff are usually friendly, but here we felt like a burden. The shower had no hot water, and that was the last straw. If there had been hot water, I might have rated the place higher. There are many hotels in Gracias, and we ended up choosing a dud. We've been traveling around Honduras for months and paid less than half as much for hotels with better facilities and service.
