We had a lovely ocean view, and having A/C in the rooms was a nice bonus. I wasn't sure the room had been properly cleaned before my family and I used it, and some of the appliances seemed dated.

We stayed the week of 10/31/2022, and I would not recommend this hotel. While we were out for the day, staff robbed our room. My wallet was taken with all my cards and $100 US cash. Hotel security filed a report, and there were local Amazon charges on my card. We were so upset that we decided to leave the island on the next ferry the following day. The pool is run down, and there’s no adult-only area, so kids are likely peeing in it. The area for borrowing water items seemed to always be closed. Restaurant service was super slow, and the food was a bit expensive. In Cozumel, you can’t buy alcohol on Sundays or after 9pm unless you’re at a restaurant. El Cid is in a mostly deserted area, so you need a rental car or a cab to get to the main tourist area, where prices are extremely high. The hotel is next to the cruise ship port, and swimming in the ocean seemed gross to me because cruise ships tend to leak oil and other toxic stuff. El Cid was probably the worst place we’ve stayed in mexico, other than Tulum.

It’s an old building that hasn’t been updated. I felt uncomfortable when the security guard asked me for a cigar. I said I don’t smoke, and he made a dirty face. That wasn’t cool or polite.

The location is good, and the staff were really nice. They found us a room at the last minute without any trouble. The place is a bit run down, though, and the Wi-Fi didn’t reach our room. Breakfast was included and reasonable.

The hotel is expensive and not worth a penny. There are much better places around La Ceiba, so avoid this one if you can. The rooms were dirty and old, the beds really small, and the only thing that seemed to work was the A/C. There’s also a nearby bar, which is handy if you want a drink within walking distance, but the loud music made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. We had a lot of luggage and were put on the fourth floor. The building is very old and the elevator wasn’t working, so getting everything up the stairs was a nightmare. We asked to move to a lower floor, but the front desk guy refused even though the hotel was almost empty, with very few guests. When I went out on my first night in La Ceiba, I came back to find the lobby entrance locked. Nobody answered when I called the front desk. I kept knocking until someone heard me, then waited outside for 20 minutes before an employee came down to let me in. The security guard said he’d watch my car and asked if I had money. When I said no, he told me to bring him something like a drink when I returned. I felt unsafe, so I gave him money. I know he works for the hotel, and it felt like he was there to extort guests instead of making them feel safe.
